Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept health insurance?
Conscious Medicine is an independent, integrative psychiatric practice that does not currently accept health insurance. Upon request, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your health insurance provider for potential reimbursement under out-of-network coverage.
How long is your waitlist? How do I get started?
Most often, I may initiate care with new clients within 2-4 weeks, with a priority on those who are highly engaged in their healing process and motivated to do their work. I offer a free ten-minute consultation call to help us get acquainted and to determine if we both agree that our work together will be beneficial.
How often are appointments usually conducted?
After the initial evaluation, your first appointment will likely occur 2-4 weeks later, depending on your specific treatment plan and need for support. Following that, appointments are typically conducted every one to three months for medication management. I do require at least one appointment every 3 months for you to remain an active client. I offer 25min medication/brief therapy appointments as well as extended 50min appointments. Clients express great value in the flexibility of treatment plans offered with the option of moving into and out of periods of deeper therapeutic work as needed, such as in times of crisis or transition. If you have an established relationship with another therapist, counselor, or psychologist for deeper therapeutic work, I can provide thoughtful medication management and coordinate care with them as well.
Do you offer Telehealth or virtual appointments?
Yes! As long as you reside within the state of Florida we can meet via Telehealth. I find some are often hesitant to try Telehealth at first but later find it to be a convenient, fulfilling way to connect. I do require an in-person visit prior to the prescription of any controlled substances and at least one in-person visit every 2 years to continue prescriptions of controlled substances.
Do you offer conventional Western psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, in addition to integrative healing modalities?
Yes. I am doctorally trained through the University of Florida in Nursing Practice. My work is to integrate diverse methods of treatment to provide a more holistic approach for my clients. I utilize DSM-5- based diagnoses as a structure to guide appropriate treatment in accordance with my licensure and training. This is a reference point used to incorporate evidence-based practice. Diagnoses are not your identity and I feel are best used to communicate a cluster of symptoms and/or behaviors. With respect to prescribing psychiatric medications: I strongly believe that the appropriate use of medication can be incredibly impactful and yet, will not alone yield the deeper, curative transformation we crave. You are a complex culmination of your life’s relationships and experiences; they have all worked together to create your current self-image, and inform how you feel and function now. Healing makes use of our neuroplasticity (the ability of our brains to rewire) to create permanent change.
What is it like working with you?
The foundation of our work together is the therapeutic relationship that we share. I hold a safe place for you to discover and hold all the pieces of you, to guide you to greater wholeness by helping you remove obstacles to your own healing and becoming.
I tailor my approach to each client. Sometimes the work is practical — to support lasting habit-change. Other times the work is relational — to ease tension with yourself and others. Often the work is emotional — to help you release and come into better relationship with your own humanity. Above all, this work is about balancing real and enduring change with your own acceptance of yourself as you are.
